Appointment of Katharina Wöhl as Regional Sales Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa

Topcon Europe Positioning announces the appointment of Katharina Wöhl as Regional Sales Manager in the Sub-Saharan region of Africa to further develop our expanding business in this area.

Born in Germany, Katharina has travelled extensively and has spent many years living in less economically developed countries within South East Asia and Southern Africa. She studied Development and Environmental Studies at the University of Stellenbosch, and enrolled on a Post Graduate course at the same institution in Geographical Information Systems. She is fluent in German, English and French, and also has some Italian and Afrikaans.

Prior to joining Topcon, Katharine has worked at Esri South Africa in the field of Software Training & Support, locally as well as project training in some west African regions. In addition, she has worked as a sales executive at Omnistar / Trimble Navigation South Africa.

Based in Cape Town, South Africa, Katharina joins us as of the start of the year with a view to developing business in Sub-Saharan Africa, focusing on GIS / GNSS and Topcon's Mobile Mapping solutions.

Sub-Saharan Africa is composed of 48 countries and currently has a total estimated population of 853.6 million people. South Africa carries less than 6% of this total population, yet its GDP composes more than 40% of SSA’s total nominal GDP.

One of Katharina’s initial goals is to sensitise and support the existing distribution network in SSA in order to develop and maximise opportunities in user markets and steadily enable growth.
